Legal issues / where is the waiver form for p...
Last post by memphis81 - October 30, 2019, 09:45:22 PM
Hello all from gloomy and rainy Bowling Green Ohio!

Really it's not all that bad just a bit soggy riding a bike! :-)

So, it seems I read somewhere there is a form/waiver for people to sign before anyone tries to repair their item.

Where is that? I found this text in the manual:

Because safety comes first in the Repair Café, the Repair Café Foundation has dedicated a seperate document with additional information to this issue. You'll find it among the additional materials that you have received as part of the digital starter kit. Read it closely and share it with everyone in your Repair Café.

Ok so what is the name of this document? Is it the house rules document? There is no where on the house rules document for a proper signature, date, etc. I have a volunteer that won't volunteer again unless we have a proper waiver form that the "client" signs to waive all rights to action against the repairer.

Also in the manual it talks about finding a lawyer to look over I guess the house rules?

What does everyone do about this?

Thanks for your help!

Repair tips & questions / Spare parts thanks to 3D print...
Last post by clemfl - June 14, 2018, 09:33:25 AM

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello everybody!

I would like you to talk about the possibility of 3D printing spare parts for your bicycles, washing machines, dishwashers ...
I am currently trying to put together all the pieces that break frequently, to design them and make them available on a platform. The goal is to offer users a wide range of spare parts that they could print in 3D at home (or in a post, ..) in order to have a faster response and cheaper to their needs.

You can already have a look at the database here: https://www.myminifactory.com/category/brands-spare-parts

I would like to collect requests from people looking for parts that are difficult to find, expensive or frequently requested. If you are looking for a special play, feel free to ask here: https://www.myminifactory.com/pages/request-a-free-spare-part

Photos of the object and its dimensions may be enough for the designer, and we have these capabilities in house and we will be happy to design pieces you miss!

Of course, do not hesitate to download the parts that will make your life easier!

If you have any advice or information to communicate to me, do not hesitate!
Have a good day

Organizational / rules for advertising at repai...
Last post by repaircafefairfield - May 02, 2017, 05:52:39 AM
Are there any rules regarding advertising at a repair cafe?  If a fixer is volunteering their services on behalf of a business, what degree of advertising is permitted?  Some of the questions we have include:

- should they be allowed to hand out business cards to the owner of the repair item?
- should they be allowed to wear jerseys advertising their business?
- should they be allowed to introduce themselves as a representative of their business when they meet the owner of the repair item?
- should they be allowed to place an advertising sign (sandwich board) outside of the repair cafe venue?
- should businesses who make corporate donations of food, refreshments, tools, and repair supplies be acknowledged?
- what is the difference between acknowledgment and advertisement?

The underlying question is: What is the goal or purpose of the repair cafe and how might commercial advertisement enhance or diminish those goals?
